Line of Dance
There are traveling dances, and stationary dances. Traveling dances would be those such as Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz, and Country/Western Two Step. These dances move down the dance floor along what is know as the “line of dance”. This moves around the room in a counter-clockwise direction. Latin and Swing dances are mostly stationary dances and have no line of dance. At times, some music selections can have people dancing a combination of traveling dances and stationary dances. In these cases, couples doing stationary dances such as Latin or Swing dances would use the middle of the floor; and couples performing traveling dances such as Foxtrot or Tango would use the outer edge of the floor traveling in the direction of the line of dance.
